Chapter 12

Jasper

Emma sleeps fitfully all night long, finally settling down shortly after dawn. I get up, wanting to inspect the job that Vice’s team did and give Vice a call, getting the score for the past weeks. Not fucking pleased I checked out while my men were in danger, I tell him to call Church. I need to get the men together and get in front of this shit – before anyone is hurt on my watch.

Hearing bikes outside as I’m finishing up in the bathroom, I hurriedly close the bedroom door so we won’t disturb her.

Gunner follows Roy into the house, carrying a take-out bag. “Nice looking kitchen. Why can’t you fucking cook in it?”

Grouchy bastard.

We divvy up most the food, leaving some for Emma when she wakes up.

“So, what’s the word?” Roy asks.

“I need some recon in Nebraska, either of you know anyone back that way?” I ask, in between bites.

“I got someone I served with out there. Don’t know where they live in relation to Emma’s home town. Can we pay their expenses?” Gunner contributes, looking fidgety.

“I’ll take care of it.” I quickly agree. I rattle off the name of the church and those involved. “The guy who got Emma out, he’ll put a guest up for a night or two. Give me your contact’s info so I can pass it along.”

“Part I don’t like is you wanting to bring him back here.” Roy speaks up. “That’s a long way to go with an unwilling passenger, to many eyes on the road.”

“What about the property?” Gunner asks. “Didn’t you say it’s in Emma’s name? Are there any buildings that can be used?”

“Guess I’ll find out.”

Gunner and Roy share a look. “You can’t be in on this, Pres.” Roy speaks up and I slam my hand down on the counter.

“This son of a bitch is mine.” I snarl.

“You’re living with his wife, Pres. Who the fuck do you think they’re going to look at when he goes missing?” Gunner grunts out, reaching into his pocket for his smokes.

“You need to be out playing golf with the Sheriff or some shit like that, the day he goes missing.” Roy confirms. “He’ll get what he deserves, but it won’t do for the MC’s President to be looked at for murder. Fucking Governor and Maddock’s wet dream, Jas.”

“I got this, Jasper.” Gunner quietly states. “We’ll lay everything out and I’ll go in and execute it. Figure it’ll be a sundown to sun-up job, don’t you think?”

“Goddamn it.” They’re right, I can’t risk the MC. I need an airtight alibi.

“Oh! Good morning.” Emma greets us. She’s pulled on pajamas and her hair is wild, but she looks amazing. Of course, I’m a little biased when it comes to my woman.

“Wow, you are truly a sight for these old eyes, Miss Emma!” Fucking Roy crosses to her before I can. Lifting her hand, he kisses it and leads her over to her food; causing Gunner to snort and me to growl. “Now you just get some food in you, I hope we didn’t wake you?”

“Enough.
